The "James Game" CD

A 3d style Quiz Game about the Letter of James

The "James Game" CD features 12 lesson-games covering all 5 chapters in the Letter of James.

When you select one of the 12 lessons to play, you can also select the game landscape you want to play it in, ...over 20 different themes in all. Some are simple, others crazy or futuristic. Each game landscape/theme features challenging rooms and hallways to run through, and plenty of things to jump over, jump on, or stay away from! (like a gigantic stomping boot pictured below). The ability to change the game theme/environment is very appealing, and keeps the game fresh.

The game style of the James CD is "3D". 3D means you are running, jumping, hunting, ducking, and otherwise exploring a series of "game levels." Rather than moving a character on the screen, your point of view in the game is "first person." As you move through the rooms and hallways of the games, jumping on scaffolding or figuring your way around chasms, you find verses and answers questions about them in order to to advance. The verses and quizzes about the verses are embedded in game terrains/landscapes.

And then there's "Mr Green Jeans" (pictured right). He's a bit confused. You find him in each game and try to help him understand how to apply the James verses to his problem.

One of the nice things about the James Game is that it's not that hard. Rather than try to thwart you, The James Game wants you to win and continue studying/playing more scriptures. And UNlike some 3d style Christian games, the James game doesn't take hours and hours to play a single game. It is 12 individual games, each of which takes between 25 and 40 minutes to play depending on your ability and knowledge.

If you've played the Interactive Parables CD you'll recognize the James game as from the same developer. James was made with the same game engine and features some of the same gaming devices/challenges, though it is updated.

Why teach the Letter of James?
Because it's
"The Gospel for the Left Brain."

The "Left Brain" thinks rationally, logically and objectively. It's the "how-to" part of you.

James' advice is very much
"How to Act as a Christian."

James is like advice to young Christian who have already said, "I Believe"
...and are now struggling to keep their faith alive and act on their beliefs.

"Faith without Works is Dead."
"If anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks in a mirror
...and walking away forgets what he looks like."
"The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield...."

"A harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace."
"Let your Yes mean Yes, and your No mean No."

James is great advice for young people, and for adults as well.

System Requirements: Windows Me/XP/Vista/7 only. Modern 3d capable graphics card/chip (which your computer very likely has if it's less than 5 years old). 1gb of processing power or more. 512 mb of ram or more. This is a 3d game which will perform better on a well appointed machine.

Ages 10 and up. Most kids younger than 10 will find the gameplay too difficult. Adults will enjoy the game too. We think it's great for home use, Sunday School, and game-time at church.

P
ictured: Receiving a gem from Mr. Green Jeans in one of the
3D mazes. I had to jump up boxes and avoid the rolling barrels
seen in the background to get up here.

More James Game Details:

You begin each game by reading the Bible Verses you've selected to play. They are presented as a graphic outside the maze, then you enter a maze of rooms and game levels. Each room/level is filled with pop-up questions to answer, things to jump, run from, and otherwise avoid, plus game objectives to complete (keys and stars to collect),  and bonus points to claim. Challenges include chasms and barrels to jump, power-up stars to collect, and traps to avoid. Nothing scary! Just challenging and fun. If you get something 'wrong' you get to try again. The game's design isn't trying to keep you from learning, it's just trying to be fun.

The quiz questions assume/teach a basic knowledge of James which you may know, or may have just read at the opening of the game!  Of course, if you don't know the answer, you'll have to try again. Might be a good idea to have your Bible at hand and opened to James!

In each game you'll meet "Mr. Green Jeans" (pictured right) -a young lad who is confused. You must answer his questions with the correct response in order to receive gems that allow you to complete the level. Maps and inventories of each level are at your fingertips.

At the beginning of each game you can choose the "style" of game level theme you want to play your selected verse in. Some are spartan and a bit futuristic. My favorite is the "Barrel Warehouse" pictures right. The level themes and decor are modest. The focus is on the game action and content.

Important "Lesson Time" notes:

Each of the James games takes upwards of 40 minutes to complete --depending on how good you are at playing the game. You get "multiple lives" and bonus points to stay in the game, but there is a limit. The mazes and game play aren't that hard (for gamers), but they are challenging, require plenty of time to play, and you may run out of turns and have to go back to your last saved location. Adults who don't have experience playing 'video games' or 3d style games will find IP difficult to preview. Get a teen to help!

Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 only.
Minimum 1gb, 512mb Ram, 16mb video ram minimum.  Higher recommended.

More about the Content of "The James Game" CD...

The letter of James is often overlooked in Sunday School and preaching. Most people only remember it for it's most famous line: "faith without works is dead."

But the Letter of James has so much more GREAT ADVICE for living out your faith, that we're thrilled all this advice was made accessible in a memorable way through this CD.

More Examples of some of James' "how to be a Christian" content:

Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the friend of God.

How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.

Let your "Yes" be yes and your "No" be no

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
