The free “B” update to version 2.3 contains the recompiled versions of all 9 videos that play in the game at various points. Sometime in 2019, Windows updated their “video codecs” which caused our videos to appear as black boxes and leave a black box at startup. This download solves that problem.
After downloading the zip file, extract/unzip it, and copy its video files into your installed Joseph folder on your harddrive. They will “overwrite” the existing video files.
I strongly recommend setting your Windows Display to 1024 x 768 resolution — to match the game’s native resolution. It’s quick and easy to do. See the graphic below. I also recommend selecting that 1024 x 768 option on the Joseph Start Up Screen (pictured below). Choosing that Display setting and Joseph start option will make the videos and graphics sharper, and keep the game window from stretching wide on wide-aspect monitors. Joseph was designed in 2011 to run on the typical “used” PCs most Sunday Schools were using, which is why we gave it a smaller resolution. Go to our Joe Tech Page for more help.
- Joseph Guide (pdf). Consider it essential for playing and guiding. You may also appreciate having these by your side:
- A Map of the game and Pharaoh’s Maze (your cheat sheet)
- A Student Worksheet (to guide them through the content)
