The Christian educators and I over at www.rotation.org have been posting a lot of great ideas for teaching and celebrating Lent and Holy Week here in 2021 at home, with families, and with in-person social-distancing in mind at church and at home.
Some of my favorite ideas re-imagine the “stations” of the cross as walk-through or drive-through stations that parishioners and visitors can do on their own time. These could be set up by families at different (safe) times around the church grounds. For example, a “Rocks will Sing” table can be set up outdoors with supplies to invite people to stop by with their kids, paint a rock, and leave it at the foot of the cross you’ve erected on the grounds. You could also have people write and nail “prayers” to a wooden cross anytime during Holy Week (use squares of “tyvek” paper that won’t disintegrate in the weather).
